Varanasi

Varanasi, also known as Benaras or Kashi, is a city in the northern Indain state of Uttar Pardesh: 
    • Known for

      Varanasi is a major religious hub and a symbol of spirituality in India. It’s one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities and is considered one of the seven holiest cities in India. 

    • Location

      Varanasi is located on the banks of the Ganges River. 

  • History

    Varanasi dates back to the 11th or 12th century BC. It was a major industrial center known for its silk, muslin, perfumes, ivory, and sculpture. 

  • Temples

    Varanasi is home to around 2,000 temples, including the Kashi Vishwanath, also known as the “Golden Temple”. 

  • Ghats

    Varanasi is famous for its ghats, including the Desaswamedh Ghat, Kedar Ghat, Harish Chandra Ghat, and Manikarnika Ghat. 

  • Climate
    Varanasi has a humid subtropical climate with large temperature variations between summer and winter.
